A small house for a large family in Karelian woods. The house stands on stilts, above the most rugged part of the plot, since only a small portion of it is suitable for the approach road. Structure is timber frame, without roof overhangs and rain gutters. Walls and roof are covered with standing seam metal sheathing.
The neutral black color of the house creates a contrasting backdrop for the northern woods and blends well with the natural wood of the terrace.
The total interior area measures 150 m2, with communal spaces and the master bedroom in the ground floor, while the upper level accommodates the other two bedrooms and a children's playroom.
The plan eliminates unnecessary transit zones and utilizes every square centimeter of the area, including all under-stair space, while also considering the need for an isolated foyer area - a mudroom. The building's simple yet functional design echoes the architectural style often associated with structures in the far north and Arctic research stations.
