A townhouse with a rare feature for the northern region—a patio spanning all three floors—is located on the Karelian Isthmus. A spruce tree is situated in the patio, and the house was built around it.
The interior design concept is based on preserving and emphasizing, where reasonable, the existing materials of the house—concrete walls and floors, steel columns, and glass. Here and there, we added softer materials—smooth plaster, plywood and mdf millwork, and textiles—to soften the overall industrial style of the dwelling.
We dedicated to common areas the entire ground floor of this compact 145m2 building, while the upper floors are designated for private use.
On the ground floor, surrounding the patio, there is a kitchen-dining area, living room, and entry. The first floor is dedicated to the master suite, a children's room, and a laundry, while the second accommodates a study/gym and a guest room with a shared bathroom. Additionally, the roof features a two-level terrace with a spiral staircase. We proposed a completely new layout, including the optimization of the design for all staircases. As with all our projects, we aimed to avoid purely transitional areas, maximizing the use of functional space.
